An Arizonan at heart, I left my beautiful desert to move to the mountains of Salt Lake City for love and grad school.

I live and work in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. My interests are primarily on historic preservation, the intersection of LGBT and Mormon issues as well as  local politics and community building. I grew up Mormon with Utah roots. I was a Mormon missionary in Russia for two years. I think about that part of me a lot and it’s one of the reasons I write about Mormons, especially topics related to Mormon history. I consider myself an activist.

I’m working on my masters in history at the University of Utah.

I published my first book with Arcadia Publishing titled Downtown Phoenix.

In no particular order I like southwest American history, I like good art and interesting people. I lived in Russia for 2.5 years and speak Russian.

Whiskey is my favorite of the dark liquors.

I have two beagles, Beau and Lacey.

There are a lot…. I didn’t even repost all of them either. My new hosting is way better and I have so much more control over the design. I’m quite pleased with it :) Glad you like it too.

Did you know you are listed as the first, second and third entries on Google! How exciting! Also, you ought to start paying Eric S. for totally stealing things that he says, like Rwanda or Detroit. :)

  16. Cole says:

Great blog. And really inspiring that you and your husband were the first gay couple married in Utah (news coverage led me to Google you and find the blog). I can’t believe how quickly this change has happened. I lived in Massachusetts when that was the only place in all of the U.S. that gay marriage was legal. And now Utah. Amazing. Congratulations! By the way, were you in the Russia Samara mission? If so, I may have inherited a coat from you.
