LDS Teen Center on YouTube asks “Are You Really Gay?”
This is an honest to goodness video produced by the LDS Teen Center (which clearly has some affiliation with the LDS Church) and it’s pretty crappy. At least the makers of this video used the term “sex” and “gender” correctly, unlike the First Presidency when they issued their “The Family: A Proclamation to the World.”
I especially love the part with Jack Black (about 1:30 into the video) because, yeah, he’s every gay man’s fantasy! The first guy that comes to mind when I think of a hot, sexy, masculine man is Jack Black in underwear.
I hate how the LDS Church and groups affiliated with the LDS Church are trying to usurp the word “gay” and replace it with the insulting “same-sex attracted” or “SSA.” It reminds me of how some Christian groups say that Mormons are not Christians and roll their eyes when Mormons say they are Christian. “You’re not really Christian,” the other churches say. Boy do Mormons hate that. Then Mormons turn around and tell someone, “You’re not really gay.” The irony is not lost.
Between all the assertions and disproven theories of homosexuality I sense a raging undertone of repression in this video. What’s sad is I can imagine a 14 year old boy being dragged by his parents to some quack LDS Social Services psychiatrist who makes him watch this video then guilts him to feel bad about a natural part of himself. It’s like making someone feel guilty about the color of their eyes.
