New Interdisciplinary and Technology Building at ASU
ASU is moving forward with plans to build the most expensive building on campus ever constructed. The $185 million building will be built on the parking lot south of the Biodesign Institute in Tempe. It will be ASU’s largest research laboratory and home to the new School of Earth and Space Exploration as well as other transdisciplinary research for Synthetic Chemistry, Astrophysics, Environmental Engineering, and Energy Research.
I like the rendering from HDR Architecture and I’m always in favor of building over existing parking lots. The $185 million may seem like a lot now, but it’s not like it will get cheaper in the future! ASU wants to become a more respected research institution and attract more research dollars and a higher caliber of student to ASU. New buildings like this one are necessary to achieve that goal. It will take about two years to complete the 293,000-square-foot building once the ground is broken.
