A Little History of the Phoenix Museum of History

The phone number to the building is disconnected and the website is gone. The glass doors are locked to the public and the exhibits removed because the Phoenix Museum of History no longer exists. Most of the artifacts once on display that link Phoenix to its early Wild West history and farther back to its ancient history are inaccessible to the public now that the city’s oldest museum of history is closed. Ramada Inn Downtown Phoenix

Downtown Ramada Inn has Historical Significance

The Sahara Motor Inn, later called the Ramada Inn is an urban oasis that rose from the sand like a mirage in downtown Phoenix, complete with a sparking pool, a restaurant, a cafe, a bar, 175 guest rooms, a gift shop, two large terrace suites for hosting parties and meetings, and  two apartment penthouses. Oldest Gay Bar in the West Torn Down. (It was in Salt Lake!)

This bar opened in 1948 in Salt Lake and had the distinction of being the oldest gay bar in the west. People used to enter from the back door so they wouldn’t be seen. But it was recently torn down. Here is a video with a brief history.
