Thus Sayeth the Lord…

by J. Seth (I go by Seth) Anderson
prophet

This revelation from the child molester prophet Warren Jeffs appeared in the Arizona Republic. Honest to goodness, I cut this out of the paper.

I didn’t know Jesus was so bad at grammar. (“The full Godhood power over world”, “be humbled in full way.”)

And I can’t help but notice that Mr. Jessop signs his name like a 3rd grader with a big crayon.

The best part is you can purchase more of these illuminating revelations on the FLDS website! Also notice the asterisk at the bottom of the price list, all of these revelations were mailed to libraries and leaders of “all nations.”

Reading this revelation and knowing that there are people who actually take it seriously makes me feel icky, for this revelation is nothing more than the fantasies and ramblings of a delusional man. However, the concept of continuing revelation is not foreign to my religious heritage. Let us not forget that Joseph Smith used the Times and Seasons to publish his revelations for the members of the early LDS Church. I grew up in a religious culture that accepted every prophecy ever given by Joseph Smith as accurate, true, and from God. I like that Joseph Smith gave prophecy. Isn’t that what a prophet is supposed to do?

But when was the last time any new revelation has come through the President (i.e. Prophet) of the Brighamite branch of the LDS Church? When was the last time any new doctrine has been added to the canon of LDS scripture? 1978? Why isn’t the one true prophet speaking for God? It’s time for the apologists to shut up and the prophets to speak up.

In 2010 the Community of Christ (formally the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) added a new revelation about their gay members to their Doctrine and Covenants known as Section 164. My copy of the Doctrine and Covenants from the mainstream Mormon Church ends at Section 138 which was given to the Prophet Joseph F. Smith in 1918 in Salt Lake. Following that Section is the first of two Official Declarations: the first one ending the practice, but not the doctrine, of polygamy in 1890, and the second Declaration that changed the policy, but not the doctrine, regarding the African race 1978.

And then nothing. The Proclamation to the Family does not count as it is not canonized scripture although Mormons like to think it is.

Even though Warren Jeffs is a total fraud I do have to respect that he is fulfilling the job requirements of a prophet.
